Ski Season Conditioning

Audrey woke up stoked for the upcoming winter and ensuing snow frolicking. She told me straight up
"Dad i'm going to train and get my body in peak condition cause I'm gonna ski my tuckus off." I said "right-on little squirt monkey."

A minute later I peaked into the living room expecting to see Audrey wailing on her pecks with some pushups or something.  But she had settled in for a nap on Gammy's lap.  I guess she didn't intend to start her training until feeling fulling rested.  Very practical approach.

After catching some zzz's Audrey knew what she needed.  You can't train until you snarf down a grilled cheese and O'douls.  C'mon.

I think the lunch time brewski hit little Audrey hard.  She demanded another nap, but first a story.

Later that afternoon we finally made it out for some action. We took in the view of the partially frozen Fish Creek Falls.  All Audrey wanted to talk about was her excitement for the snow and skiing.  I called her out on the fact that she has never even skiied or seen snow before.  But she gave me a look that said "what the h-e-double hockey sticks are you talking about" and proceeded to point out some gnarly lines up Fish Creek Canyon that she would be tackling this winter.

Baby Needs

As Audrey's mom and pop, Chris and I are figuring out what she needs, when she needs it and how she tells us.  We already knew that babies need to be fed, kept clean and dry, put to sleep, and most importantly given lots of love.  We have been learning more from our stack of books about what parents should do.

Food
Audrey has been eating well and gaining about an ounce-ounce and a half per day.  She is very in-tune with her momma's eating schedule; most meals, when I sit down to eat Audrey makes her request to eat too.

Clean and Dry
Diaper changes are hit or miss, sometimes she is mesmerized by the red light above the changing table, sometimes she wails.  The constant is wet or dirty diapers, which is another sign she has been eating well.

Audrey loves baths.  Her first one took some getting used to the water, but she soon was blissfully floating and fondly remembering her long months of floating in the womb.  Now, mom and dad fight over whose turn it is to enjoy a bath with her.

Sleep
Sleep?  What's that?  Audrey knows, she sleeps in 2-4 hour stretches about 15-16 hours a day; mom and dad just have memories of it.
"I rock at sleeping!"

Lovely swaddle job

Love
Is it possible to give a baby to many kisses?  I think not.  We find plenty of time for snuggling.

Cord Care
Audrey's umbilical cord stump fell off on Day Eight.  It was a surprise at changing time to notice it sudddenly wasn't there anymore, later we found it wrapped up in the back of her onesie.  Now she has an adorable, very kissable, belly button.

Tummy time
This girl is going to be doing push ups soon, for now its just lounging.

Skin to Skin
The Moby Wrap (baby carrier) instruction booklet lauds the benefits of skin to skin contact, including improving baby's sleep time and quality, lowering stress hormones, reducing crying, and increasing baby's overall health.  Sounds good to me.

Auto CAD
All babies should be exposed to this engineering design software

You can't always get what you want, but if you cry sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need.

The Weird, Funny, Adorable, and Scary Noises of a Baby

I was startled awake the other night by a noise that made me think someone was in our room.  It sounded like the maniacal laugh of a toothless old man.
As I scanned the room for this guy i heard the noise again, obviously coming from baby Audrey in the bassinet.  As my heart beat slowed I drifted back to sleep...

A couple other favorite Audrey noises makes me wonder if she is part

She does take to the water as she has shown with her love for baths. So baby dolphin blood is not out of the question.  But she also likes to flap her wings/arms when released from her swaddle.  So we can't rule out the teradactyl genes.  And her baby goat cry is spot on.  We'll have to wait and see if she continues to develop any more distinguishing noises to narrow this down a bit.

Full Moon Setting

This morning I got to watch the beautiful, golden full moon set over the mountains to the west
as the light of dawn surrounded it and brightened the sky
And to think, if it weren't for my beautiful, hungry daughter requesting food I would have missed it.
Thanks Audrey.
